How to Choose a Mountain Bike?

If you love the thrills of going off-road and riding in the mountains, you need to have a mountain bike that will suit your purpose. It would be helpful for you to know how to choose an appropriate bike for your cycling purpose. So, check out these few tips on finding out how to be ready for the mountain trails. And yes, remember that choosing a mountain bike isn’t all about choosing the right tyre and tube—in fact, you’ll be surprised to know how much more there is.

1. Choose the Right Size

The first consideration when choosing a mountain bike is its frame size. Don’t go by the small, medium and large that companies are coming out with these days. Instead, make sure that the bike you’re looking at is indeed the right one for you. Check out the distance between the saddle and bars or reach and the distance between the middle of the crank and the mid-head tube. If there’s a long triangle in front, its axle is further ahead. This means you can get a better grip and you can climb if your front wheel is well planted.

2. Get a Good Wheel Size

Broadly, choose a diameter size of about 27.5in-29in. Look out for larger wheel sizes for big miles and smaller ones to smash trails. Getting plus sizes can be an advantage too but bear in mind that tire pressure could be an issue.

3. Full-suss or Hardtail?

When we speak of the full suspension components of a mountain bike, we really mean its bearings, rear shock, linkage, and other parts. All of these are expensive. As a result, you can get better parts on a hardtail bike rather than a full-suss for the same price. Besides, there won’t be much maintenance for you to bother about and largely, the bike works brilliantly, so there won’t be any repairs to worry about.

Full-suss bikes, on the other hand, are certain streets ahead than the hardtail, so they have many more advantages to them. You don’t have to learn mountain biking on a hardtail before getting this one, contrary to public opinion. This is really the better of the two.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are many aspects to a mountain bike, each bearing its own place of importance for a mountain biker. So, when out buying a mountain bike, check for these and other factors and buy only if you are fully satisfied.
